TRANSITIONING TO A STAY-AT-HOME MOM

May 24, 2017

Being a mom changed my life, but transitioning to a stay-at-home mom threw me for a loop. I had just finished all of my school and work commitments and it was finally time to give my daughter all the attention she deserved. Day after day started to become a blur and my husband would come home to find me in my pajamas still in bed.

This was a struggle I did not really expect. I was actually looking forward to being with my daughter all day everyday with no other responsibilities. I went from running around all day to sitting around all day. I suddenly felt like I had no purpose, even though I was doing the most important job of my life.

This transition left me sad and irritable. I started to blame my husband for going to work everyday and never being home. I knew it wasn’t his fault, but I needed someone to blame.

I needed to make a change, and I needed to make it fast before I fell deeper in this slump.

I decided to start forming habits that would benefit my daughter and me. The first habit I tried forming was so simple, but so crucial. I would get dressed every morning as if I was going out and make the bed (that way I wouldn’t get back in it). These two things were the boost I needed to get me up and out of the house.

strollerThe second habit I formed was the hardest for me. It’s so important to get outside and interact with other people and I just didn’t have the energy to get out. After forming the first two habits this next one became easier. We started to go on walks, go to the mall, go to museums and just get out of the house. Even though my daughter isn’t old enough to really enjoy these things, I still do it. Its more for me to get out and interact with others than it is for her.
I have noticed a huge improvement in my life by doing these few simple things. I’ve asked many moms what their secret is to being a stay-at-home mom and they all say the same thing. Get up, get dressed and get out. Following these few things will make your transition much easier!
